Pastor Ron Barker's Amazon Book Review Of: THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE: A Journey Into Missional Living

"Jay has written a book that is, first and foremost, a very practical approach to misssional living.

He has Biblical background and has applied it very well in my opinion. The work of taking the Gospel to a lost and dying world has always rested in the 'everyman'.

Anyone who will take the time to read this book and apply the timeless principles will find themselves following the way of the Master. Well done Jay!"

Pastor Ron Barker

Carol Skaggs Amazon Book Review of: THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE: A Journey Into Missional Living

"This book is honest and powerful. Jay was very transparent sharing a raw, painful memory that ultimately catapults him out of complacency as regards witnessing to others. (You've got to read this!) He tells it like it is within Christian circles.

We are all so comfortable shining our light within our churches, but when it comes to sharing with the community at large, or even within our own sphere of influence we are falling down on the job.

Jay lays out a step by step plan to begin living a missional life. Starting with our own testimonies, giving God the glory as we seek ways to bless other people's lives. This opens up doors to sharing the Good News of Christ and ultimately helping someone to consider Christ.

I recommend this book to everyone, but especially Christians!"

THE GOD OF ANGEL ARMIES: By Our Guest Blogger Dr. Terry Dorsett

My morning devotions lately have been in 2 Kings. Yesterday I wrote about King Ahaziah seeking help from a false god and the disaster that resulted from that effort. Today I want to focus on 2 Kings 6. In that chapter the prophet Elisha is being pursued by the king of Aram, one of Israel’s long-time enemies. The king is upset because God had been revealing the king’s battle plans to Elisha through supernatural means. Elisha would then tell his own people those plans so they could stop the plans before they happened. The king of Aram sent horses, chariots and a massive army to surround the city where Elisha lived (2 Kings 6:14). The next morning when one of Elisha’s assistants woke up and saw the army, he asked, “What are we to do?” Elisha responded by saying that “those who are with us outnumber those who are with them” (2 Kings 6:16). Elisha then went on to pray and asked God to open the eyes of his assistant so that the young man could see the supernatural army of horses and chariots of fire that surrounded Elisha’s position. God then used a miracle to lead the attacking army away and as a result, the Aramean’s stopped raiding the Israelite territory (2 Kings 6:23).

Though many centuries have passed since that event took place, God is still doing supernatural events around us all the time. We often get so focused on our problems and difficulties that like Elisha’s servant, we ask in despair, “What are we to do?” In those times we need to remember that God has legions of angels at His command. We need to remember that God has never been defeated in all of history. God has a plan and is working that plan out for ultimate good of the universe. We need to remember that God’s forces always outnumber the enemy and in the end, God’s side always wins. We need our eyes to be opened so that we can see what God is doing around us and take comfort in the power He has at His disposal to do things in ways we could have never dreamed. Today, let our hearts not be troubled, let us believe in Jesus and look to Him for our hope.
Terry Dorsett

Ric Worshill's Amazon Book Review of THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE: A Journey Into Missional Living

"Brother Jay Moore has authored this challenging, insightful and illustrative tool that can be used by Christian individuals and church leaders to study and train other congregational members, why and how to bring light and life to people who are living in the darkness of unbelief.

This is a book that is Kingdom minded. The first message is a story that illustrates a problem that has been plaguing the Church for years. In many cases some church attendees seem to come to church, but they walk out the doors and don't pass the message on to those outside who haven't heard it. In some cases many people who come to church do everything they can to make themselves look good to the other members of the church, instead of glorifying God, Who blessed them with this gift.

The book also gives instruction on how to gain a missional mindset and how to effectively bring that mindset to the mission fields. The step-by-step instructions are clear to understand and easy to implement.

I highly recommend every Christian to read this book and serve to the glory of the King and His Kingdom."

Johnnie Robinson's Amazon Book Review of: THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE: A Journey Into Missional Living

"Jay Moore has written a book addressing the common problem in churches today of people going to church but never going out into the Mission Field of their own lives.
He addresses the problem of never leaving your comfort zone of the pew and being a light to the world around you especially in our nation today.

I felt it was well written for the common Christian man and women, with practical steps to gain comfort in sharing your faith through your own experiences in your walk with Christ.
I found myself these last two weeks praying that God would make me bold and shine the light that he has put in me to the people I meet every day.

Before I read the book I had a couple of experiences where I was able to share a small version of my testimony with two people in distress and how God worked in my life. I've asked that they keep the door open for me to stay in touch.  Highly recommend this book."

FEEDING ON CRAP by Alison Moore (A Guest Blogger)

Alison Moore is an amazing young woman with a contagious faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and a tremendous ability to share Biblical truth through writing.  Her blog today deals with a subject that all who consider themselves to be fully devoted followers of Christ should consider. Read what she says and then take a few to meditate on the truth that God reveals through the it.

“As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.”
Proverbs 26:11

I have a new appreciation for this verse as I now have a vivid mental picture of what it means.
There I am sitting out in the backyard with Mackenzie, our 8 month old Labrador Retriever. She’s wandering around sniffing out a spot to do her business. Occasionally she stops, squats, attempts, but nothing happens so she walks it off and moves on to a new spot, whimpering occasionally as though she were in pain… like she was constipated. Finally she squats and gets it out, and it’s no wonder why it was so difficult for her; her poop was full of grass she had been eating in the backyard. Now that’s weird and slightly gross already but just to up the level of disgust, guess what she did then… she ate it! Or she started to anyway, luckily my brother Jason was out there to severely reprimand her. I was too busy shrieking in disgust.

So, it wasn’t her vomit but it was her own excrement and it was horridly disgusting. It was shriek worthy it was so gross. It was angering it was so repulsive and pointless. She had no need and no business to be eating her own waste. We give her perfectly good food and a body excretes what is no longer valuable to its health so there was nothing to be gained by her returning to her crap.

And that, my friends, is what it’s like when we return to our own folly. It could be an addiction we can’t shake or worry or laziness or gossip or ANYTHING that belittles and dishonors God. We know it’s not good for us, it’s not providing any nutrients to our relationship with Christ and yet we feed off it.
Sometimes we even push past the pain and struggle of getting the crap out of our lives. But then, for whatever inconceivable reason, after removing it from ourselves we return to the crap and start the cycle all over again.
My reaction to Mackenzie was disgust. Jason’s reaction was anger. And there was the repetitive question, “what is wrong with you?!”

How many times does God have to ask us that question? What is wrong with you? When will we each decide that whatever our personal folly is, it’s not worth returning to? It’s not worth repulsing and angering our sovereign Lord, our master who provides us with all the food and nutrients necessary through Him.
So stop feeding on crap you nasty!
